TenguGo Kana Hiragana Katakana App Reviews

I lived in Japan when I was little and have always loved Japanese language and culture. I have tried dozens of other kana learning methods and have always either lost interest or gotten frustrated with the kana. This was not the case for this ap. I mastered hiragana in about a week and am working my way through the katakana. If you have been looking for a kana learning system that helps you learn kana simply and quickly, give this one a try!

This is absolutely amazing for learning kana. I downloaded it on a whim because it was free and I have never been more satisfied with a free download. I splurged and bought the 99cent kanji app from the same company :) highly recommend

This app has helped me a lot in learning the kana characters! Im able to exercise my memory any time of the day. The questions on the quizzes are randomized, which is what I love most. it also shows both the typed and written variables! 10/10

Quick way on learning hiragana and katakana! And really well structured!

Very good app for learning hiragana and katakana. The chapter reviews are where you can get the most from this app as they allow you to quickly review all of the material and they show you the proper stroke order for each kana. Its also nice that you are given a native reading in both a female and male voice. The quizzes are very nice too. I recommend using this app with memrise and Human Japanese.

A few of the things I like about this app are that it teaches all of the hiragana and katakana kanas instead of just a subset like other free apps. It provides a helpful and interesting background on the development of the kanas as well. The quizzes are nicely randomized and all the more helpful because each one includes material from the previous lesson so one can be sure one can identify a character from all characters rather than easily guessing from just the 5 most recent. The app also tests audibly, visually from Japanese to English, and visually from English to Japanese so one learns to fully utilize the kana. I also appreciate the tutorials on the stroke order for each character. Finally, I love that this app is still compatible with old devices like mine. One additional feature I would love would be quizzes for just the characters that are similar, like ho, ma, and mo; ne, re, and wa; and nu and me. I can guess those when my choices include other characters that dont look similar, but I would really be forced to remember them if I had to pick from similar-looking characters.

Full of both visual and audio examples. Goes into the history behind the characters. Explains each topic very well.

This app helped me learn kana in only a span of 12 weeks and is very greatly organized into tests and it is very helpful if you are trying to learn kana
